Same sorts thing happened to me... I went skiing at Mt. Hood, Oregon a couple of years ago and stayed at the Timberline Lodge, which is the Hotel they used for the exterior shots of the hotel in the Shining (The Overlook). I expected some sort of acknowledgement- maybe a "I survived the Overlook" bumperstickers or a plaque on the wall. But nothing. Worst part- they cut down the hedge maze. I heard they're making a Tron sequel. I really hope they steer clear of the usual high energy rave-y techno soundtrack. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Was looking through the Allmusic geek guide to Electronica the other night and was surprised to find (though others probably aren't) that it was actually Wendy/Walter Carlos who did the soundtrack to the original. She/he also did The Shining and Clockwork Orange. So there you go. glenn. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Correct you are. And on that note, I think that Jega should be seriously considered for any proposed sequel. m@2zo --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I don't think the people in Hollywood understand techno yet. I'm all for high-energy techno, but the techno I've heard on movie soundtracks is usually pretty sucky and risk-free - they're afriad to aleinate the audience by playing something too strange. A real pity, because some of the more enjoyable sci-fi blockbusters (like the Matrix) would have been an ideal context in which to present music that didn't sound like a Yet Another Composing Gig for some Hollywood pro. One problem of course is that the music is usually viewed as another just merchandising spin-off - film soundtracks used to be more important in the days before everyone had a video recorder. Another problem is that if the film is using original music (rather than licensing some cool old retro track for instant mood), then they want it to be very subordinate to the visuals, lest they be accused of sinking millions of dollars into a 2-hour music video. Ah well The IDM-est science fiction film is of course 'Pi' because Autechre are on the soundtrack :-) Anig Browl _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
